07.18.2011

After weeks of thinking baby Sadie would come early I finally decided we would need to be induced. I had been dilated to a 3 and 70% effaced for a month and contracting pretty much daily every 3-5 minutes. We made 4 runs to the hospital thinking for sure I was in labor. Each time they would hook me up to the monitors and sure enough I was contracting hard every 2-3 minutes but nothing ever changed. They set the induction for Wednesday June 29th. They told me to call at 6 am to find out what time to come in. The night before I was laying in bed with Sienna talking about the arrival of baby Sis. I told her how I hoped the baby was healthy and looked just like her. She looked at me and got this very serious expression on her face and said "oh man mom, I just hope she's still a girl." I asked her what she would do if it came out a boy and she told me she already had one of those and would send it back.

The morning of the 29th I called the hospital at 6. They told me that they were pretty busy and to call back again at 8. Steve informed them that we lived an hour away so she then told us to be ready to leave by 7 and call again then. I think the kids knew that this was the day their world was about to change. Both usually sleep until about 9:30 or 10 and this morning both kids woke up super early. So at 7 we called and they told us to head on down. We kissed our babies goodbye and left them with grandpa Seth. We arrived at the hospital just in time to see an ambulance in the bay of the women center. When we got to the check in desk they informed me that they had just given my bed away. I joked and said you gave it to the ambulance lady right? They told us to walk around for a while and they would call us when they had a room ready. We walked around the hospital grounds and went and sat outside for a while. The weather was perfect and we got a little snack while we waited for the phone call. They finally called and told us to come back at 11. We finally got checked in and they started the pitocin and about 11:45. I told the nurse that I wanted the epidural as soon as possible because I didn't want to feel anything. She kind of laughed at me thinking I was joking but trust me, I wasn't. I was already dilated to a 4 and I knew that when the pitocin hit, it probably wouldn't take long for the arrival of the baby. The nurse came back in and told me the anesthesiologist would be going in for a c- section at 1 so if I wanted the epidural before I needed to do it then... I told her to send him in.. Again stating that I didn't want to feel anything. My cute dr arrived at the same time the anesthesiologist showed up to insert the epidural. She was there to break my water. Luckily for me she decided to come back AFTER the epidural had been placed. I was a little nervous for the epidural part but really it's not that bad. During the process we found out that the doctor had a best friend that lived in Oakley. After talking to him we found out his best friend was Dave Neff wh is really good friends with the Sargents. After he found out about this we got top notch care from him. He got the epidural placed but didn't have time to give me my extra dose button that you push when the pain gets really bad. He told me he would return as soon as he was done with the c- section to finish the process. This was at about 1:00 when he left. About 10 minutes later Dr. Gibson was back to break my water. I didn't feel much during the process but for sure knew when my water had been broken. Weirdest feeling ever, not going to lie. I think at this point she turned the pitocin up and told me she would return in a little while. At this point it was about 1:25. Life was good for a while but around 2 I Started to feel a lot of pain. I asked Steve to go and get my nurse because I was at about a 10 on the pain scale and I didn't feel like the epidural was working at all... I kept frantically looking for my button to push for the extra dose of medicine only to remember that the dr. Didn't finish with that part of the epidural. My nurse came in and checked me and realized I was at about a 7. She called the anesthesiologist and he walked in at about 2:20. He messed around with the line going into my back and had me switch to laying on my right side. After about 10 minutes of him giving me a "super dose" of medicine the pain finally subsided and I was completely numb. This was at about 2:30. At this point my cute nurse looked at the monitor and noticed my contractions were about 30 seconds apart and decided she better check me. She checked and sure enough I was completely dilated and read to push. She hurried and went and grabbed Dr. Gibson who arrived and started to prep for delivery, at this point she told me she wanted to do a test push in case I forgot how to properly push. So I Started to push and baby started to crown. She quickly told me to stop because she wasn't ready, she gowned up and got everything ready and told me at the next contraction to start pushing... Literally two and a half pushes later baby Sadie was born @ 2:45 p.m. She came out weighing 7 pounds 7 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. She had a full head of hair and came out trying to suck anything she could get her mouth on. She was perfect and so cute and the moment they placed her on m chest I Knew I would love her forever!!! It was by far my best birth. Thank heavens the anesthesiologist showed up when he did because if it would have even been 5 minutes later I would have felt everything and trust me I am not one of those women who had the desire to have a baby unmediated. I am totally fine in saying I received an epidural. I was so relieved he got it working just in the nick of time...
My cute Dr. We LOVE her... She is so funny!

Wow... A family of 5!!!
